It's a Hard Knock Life

We took the girls to see Annie at the local Community College. They were so excited, they have been counting down the days since we told them about it. The first time they saw the movie I think Eden was about two and a half. They would watch it everyday. I remember the first time I watched it with them. Watching it with adult eyes, was very different than watching back in the day...I began to question how appropriate that show really is. Where to begin...

Alcoholic Miss Hannigan...seriously every scene she is either drinking or drunk.

Sleezy Miss Hannigan...clearly doesn't have any morals. She throws herself at every man she sees.

Abusive Miss Hannigan...screaming at the orphans, depriving them of food, making them work like slaves and constantly belittling them.

Disrespectful Children...name calling, lying, fighting, stealing, not sleeping at bed time.

Children running away...the worst part is that you are relieved when Annie gets out of that dreadful orphanage.

Children hanging out alone, at night, in a big city....and you are hoping they don't get caught.

So, yeah, this is the show I took my kids to. Here they are in the car, with "Holly" or "Holls" (as in Holly Hobby). She had to stay in the 200 degree car during the show. When we got back to the car Edee asked her "So how was it?" If that poor doll could talk...wait...her lips would be melted together so that really wouldn't work...

Here are some shots of the show. I kept my flash off, as to not get kicked out of the show for using flash photography.

Here they are with that sassy, sneaky, smart little orphan, Edee was a little star struck. (They even got autographs!)

And here they are with Miss Hannigan and her "brother" Rooster. Those two are a little too close, if you know what I mean...

After the show, my hard knock life continued.

Looks like so much fun. Don't worry... all those "themes" are going to affect your kids as bout as much as they did you! They will just love watching Annie dance around with Daddy Warbucks. :)

OOoooooh the memories! I used to watch Annie and then make my mom act out parts of it with me. The girls look adorable--and so excited!

When I was around 8 I was obsessed with Annie after I saw it on Broadway. I had the whole soundtrack memorized and dreamed that someday, I would be Annie on Broadway :)

Did I tell you Mike calls me Annie - he sings the song, "Tomorrow" - it's so rude he makes fun of my freckles (they pop out big time in the summer). This is why I can never wear a red dress or let my natural auburn hair color come out. It's a complex.

I have YOUR family to thank for introducing "Annie" to Jack. We walked past it in Target one time and Jack shouted, "HEY- I watched that at Ede's house!"

How fun!! And those are great pictures! Good thing you didn't get kicked out for taking them. I didn't notice any pictures of Aric with Annie, what's up with that?!

I know what you mean about watching something with adult eyes...I keep being dissapointed with going to show my boys' something that I loved as a child and then feeling like, "Er...I didn't remember, THAT!"

I think it is so cute how Edee ws star struck!

I think this will be such a great memory to look back on! :)

I laughed at you explaining that Holly Hobby's lips would be melted together! So funny!

I don't know if you get all of these comments in your e-mail but, I went back and read and commented on your recent posts. I am feeling such blog guilt that I can't keep up with everybody's fantastic posts! I love your blog so I was so excited to catch up on everything recent :)

That Miss Hannigan looks shady indeed.

Your girls look adorable. Those sandals are so cute. I went to baby shoe aisle at Target on Saturday and had to leave because I was so overwhelmed by the selection. Seriously.

I think I will get the hang of it, though.

LOVING the background music!

And my kids are so happy I'm no longer Abusive Miss Hanigan, now that I'm in the second trimester.

Ya, lately we are noticing alot of things that we thought were okay, like Grease. We took our kids to that play and were a little concerned. The Christmas Story, Back to the Future...Goonies...the list goes on and on. luckily, they only remember the funny parts:)

i'm glad i'm not the only one that has questioned the wholesomeness of annie! it's very strange how i grew up watching this movie (the same goes for grease) and didn't think twice about it. and my mom let me watch them. but now that i am a mother and my girls watch annie, i cringe to think about all that is going on in the movie! perspective really changes things! i wonder if it is worse because we are mother's of girls??!

oh my goodness...my kids are hooked on annie too--thanks to my addiction to it since 1980--the carol burnette version right? of course, not the creepy one with that lady from misery.

annie's wig though is making me laugh so hard in that photo! SHE looks drunk!
