Easy and Adorable

No, I'm not talking about me...

I'm talking about the aprons I made with my girls yesterday! They've been wanting to sew something so I took them to pick out fabric on Saturday.

Oh the memories it stirred up of going to Fabricland with my mom when I was their age. I remember picking out Care Bear fabric for me and Transformer and Star Wars fabric for my brothers. I was good for about 20 minutes and then it was torture. As I got older I could easily lose an hour browsing all the colors and textures while my creative genius flowed....anyhoo...

So after a very important lesson on how to pick fabric...pick one bold/crazy pattern and then one that is more simple. They don't have to be matchy match but they should compliment each other...blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Well they were good little listeners. After explaining to Eden that Cheetah can be interpreted in other ways, this is what she chose...

...brown and white polka dots, hot pink cheetah and turquoise (her favorite color) rick rack. If this doesn't scream Eden I don't know what does.

Maya on the other hand wanted a more summery fun sort of feeling. So she picked out some watermelon fabric that was green (her favorite color) and then a sunny yellow polka dot.

I found a darling pattern online and designated Tuesday as apron making day. The girls took turns entertaining Camden while I helped them cut and iron their fabric.
We waited until he was in bed to do the actual  sewing. Here are some sweet action shots thanks to my buddy photographers...

After a couple of hours we had these adorable creations!

Aren't they so cute with their new aprons...if only they had a mom who actually cooked so that they could use them.

HOW CUTE!!! They look tricky, for my skill set anyway... but what a fun project! I just hang with my kids in the pool for 30 minutes every couple of days and they think i am the funnest mom ever. imagine if i actually did something truly creative with them... they wouldn't know what to do with themselves.

Here's the new plan: I send all my kids to you for creative apron making/marathon training lessons. Then you send them on to Jessica R. for cooking/awesomeness lessons. You both raise them and return them to me perfect in about 10 years or so. Deal?

First of all, love Christie!

Second of all, PLEASE invite my craft deprived daughters (and me) along the next time you do something like this. I'm serious. In fact, we should rotate a kid day a week: you do sewing, Cami does scrapbooking, meg and I do cooking, Randi does photography, daralee does canning or something. Wouldn't that be neat?!

You could totally sell those!

L.O.V.E. them. What great memories you are creating with your girls as well as providing them with life-long skills. Just another reason why I think you are fantastic.

Send 'em over to cook and I'll send Isabel over to sew. She dies of pure joy every time Grami Tami sews with her. PURE JOY.

What a good momma you are!!

Those aprons are absolutely DARLING!!! You are such a fun mom, Jessica!!

Your line of, "No, I'm not talking about me..." in reference to your Easy and Adorable title was hilarious, girlie.

I am still trying to get over the fact that your whole family ran for fun. Weirdos! (Actually as I type, I am realizing that I didn't see Aric in any action shots, hopefully he has a good head on his shoulders :))

I sewed, once, and blamed the poor outcome on my sewing machine. I always sew better at my mom's. Now, I just realized it was because she probably believed it was a lost cause and just did the project for me.

Now, go bake some cupcakes with your girls. No... fry some bacon. Nnnoo... make bacon cupcakes, yummy!

All this typing is clearly making me hungry.

WOW!!! So stinkin' cute. I'm especially impressed that you let them pick out the fabrics on their own. I'm such a control freak, I'm sure I'd have a hard time with that.

Those are very cute! One of the best things my mom ever taught me was how to thread a sewing machine. I don't really sew but I could if I wanted to. What a fun project!!! I'm lovin' this playlist too!

Wow! they are beautiful! Who'd a thought 2 young girls could create such beauty. I will have to remember that when they come to visit! Good work Jess. I'm sure they will never forget this experience and I invision those aprons being shown to their little ones someday. You do well too. Considering everything else you do so well, if cooking isn't, that's pretty much a nonissue. xoxo
