Maya's First Day of Third Grade
She was a little nervous so we all walked with her to the school to find her line and within a minute she was surrounded by her friends yelling "Maya, Maya!"
We found her line and then she gave me a hug and said "see you after school mom" and ran off with her friends. The bell hadn't even rang yet! Aric put his arm around my shoulder and very supportively shoved me off the playground and got me safely to the car without making a scene. I served my purpose, I helped her find her line and her friends then I was no longer needed. And that was okay.
Eden's First Day of School
After we dropped Maya off, Eden was disappointed when she realized her school didn't start for three more hours!
We managed to fill up the time. At Back to School night her teacher sent home a giant paper doll the kids were supposed to decorate and make it look like themselves.
So we worked on that for over an hour. This is "Little Eden"
All I did was cut out pieces of brown construction paper for her to glue on as hair. I arranged the paper for her side pony tail but she did all the rest. Little Eden even had white little shorts under her skirt just like the real Eden so she could be modest when she played on the monkey bars. Her art teacher, Christine, would be so proud!
After lunch we headed over to the school to wait for the bus that would take her to the kindergarten center. We had to wait for a long time!
Luckily they had some activities for the kids to do while they waited for twenty-five minutes. The bus was so late that they ended up missing the first half hour of school. Which is kind of a lot considering they are only at school for 2 1/2 hours.
There were lots of friends for Eden to wait with...
Once she finally got on the bus, Aric and I rushed to the kindergarten center to get there before the bus, so that we, I mean "I", could be there to watch her get off the bus...
...and safely to her class.
It was a great day for both girls. I am so glad that Aric arranged his day so that he could be there to help me get them off. It was a difficult day and I so appreciate his love and support. I am also grateful for great friends who let me cry on their shoulders, and bring me comfort food (thanks Amy!).
So there you have it. I made it through the first day of school with out resorting to prescription drugs. After my last post I'm sure there were a few of you wondering.... But I'm actually okay now. It still seems weird to have such quiet afternoons but I have found lots of things to do to make the time go by quickly, like re-caulking toilets and removing/installing new toilet seats. And besides I do love watching my children grow and learn so much because of their new experiences.
It's life. I get it. And I'm okay with it....at least for today...

You did it!
The girls look great, and mommy didn't cry.
Mission accomplished.
The girls look so cute it's fun to watch them grow up from afar! Hugs and kisses!
they look so cute. Glad to hear they have done well on their first days of school :)
Sending them off into the big world is scary. It's also hard to have a silent house when that was never your intention at this stage. Hang in there. You are a great mom!
I love the first day of school for the great pictures and cute cute outfits. I love Eden's shoes. I was kind of chicken to take lots of pictures once Aidan got to preschool. I'll have the get some tomorrow.
I love how you explained how Aric shoved you off of the playground. He is a good man. I can tell :)
It is hard for me, too. You did GREAT...and I have been surprised how quickly the time goes by until school is over.
Totally off of the subject but, I LOVE Eden's little flower shoes!
