True Story

This morning I decided to go for a run. I live in a community that is all about paved trails and sidewalks promoting a healthy lifestyle. It makes it pretty easy to go for a nice safe run...or so I thought.

I'm about half a mile into my run just enjoying some Coldplay (Viva la Vida to be exact) when I notice the cars driving towards me pulling over to the side of the road as if an ambulance were coming. I don't see any flashing lights...I turn down my Coldplay and....nope no sirens to be heard. So I keep on running. Then out of the corner of my eye I see this:

No joke. I see a mama moose and her baby, her enormous baby, on the other side of the street trying to cross over to my side. On my side there is a fence lined neighborhood. They are... oh about half a block away from me. So what would you do?

I start running in place sizing up the situation. I realize my choices are to keep on running pretending to be invisible hoping that the moose wouldn't see me. Or I could try to climb over one of the six foot fences into someone's backyard. Or I could run as fast as I can the opposite direction back towards my development.

I decide to run back towards my house in full sprint. I don't look back just run. A good long minute into my sprint, a nice couple in a silver PT Cruiser pull up next to me and offer me a ride. They said the moose were gaining on me and there was no way I could out run them. So I hop into the strangers car and they drive back into my development and drop me off so I could continue my run. I was a little freaked out so I cut my run short and after another mile I headed for home.

I can only imagine what that must have looked like... five foot three me being chased by a seven foot something mama moose and five foot something baby moose. I'm just glad I lived to tell you all about it.

Good Grief, there goes the neighborhood. I'm glad you're safe. Now I'm having second thoughts about jogging around your house the next time I come visit. :)

Holy freaking cow...I mean moose! That is a CRAZY thing that happened to you.

So I have 2 questions for you, how in the heck do you live with a rug under your kitchen table (I'd love the look but my kids are a mess)? And after reading your tooth post, it made we wonder if you ever had any success with Stop nail polish? My die hard thumb sucking all day and all night girls wore it for 3 weeks and they haven't sucked since (it's been about 6 months or more). So I'm sold on it. We just reapplied after each bath.

I checked twice yesterday to see if you had posted this yet. Seriously so funny.

(I thought at first it was a dig at Ryan and the furry beard...)

That's so funny, I would've crapped my pants! Did you take a picture while you were running?

When i was little, we were playing at the Mutual Dell in Utah. A baby moose wandered through the playground and we thought "oh how cute" and THEN a mad mama moose came charging through our playground. scared the bejeebers out of me. I've yet to see anything like a mad mama moose. glad that you were safe.
p.s. I think that i want to live where you live. a moose in your neighborhood??? we only get coyotes...boring.

Okay that is crazy. We were on our way to the church and we saw those moose and we pulled over to see them, but I did not see you. You must have already been picked up. I am glad you got home safe. You do not want to mess around with moose.

Oh, for pity sake!!!!!! I can't believe they chased you!!!!! Do moose attack? I am so glad you are okay. Since you are safe I can laugh at how bizarre that whole thing was!!

Now you will have to run with tranquilizer darts, or something.

And they say living in the suburbs isn't exciting.

Glad you are safe!

I know you totally don't know me but I found your blog one day and enjoy checking in every now and then...is that weird? Anyway, I have to say that your music to serenade your posts make me laugh. I just want to know if you jogged in place, sizing up the siutation to the beat of Coldplay? That's the way I imagined it in my head if it was me.

I'm really glad you didn't get attacked by the moose. That would have made for a really BAD day!

HUH-larious.

And scary. Glad it was you and not me.

I ran alone on Monday and today. I will have to pay more attention.
