Cinderella: The One Woman Show

Aric and I have a thing, our thing is watching TV shows together. Don't judge, it's just what we do.
On Monday we watch 24.
On Tuesday we watch Fringe.
On Wednesday we watch Lost.
On Thursday we watch Survivor and The Office.
On Friday and Saturday we usually watch a movie or hang out with friends.
** I also watch American Idol and The Biggest Loser. They are MY shows.... I watch on my own time... which means I never watch an entire episode from start to finish...
We only watch our shows after dishes are done and the kids are all toothbrushed, scripture read, prayed, hugged, kissed and snuggled in their beds.
We use our handy dandy DVR to make sure we don't miss a moment of our precious shows. The only thing is that sometimes nights are so crazy that we don't start watching them until kind of late. So I have this unwritten rule that I HAVE to be in bed toothbrushed, scripture read, prayed, hugged, kissed and snuggled in bed by midnight. I prefer 11pm but I will let myself go to midnight and that's it!
So the other night I noticed the time was 11:43pm, and in that moment I realized that the laundry that I had done earlier hadn't gotten folded. (I ALWAYS fold immediately after the load is done) So with hands of fury I quickly folded and put the baskets in the appropriate rooms then like lightening I finished the rest of my nighttime routine. Right before my head hit the pillow I checked the clock and it said 12:03am. I felt so satisfied and proud of myself. But really what was the big deal about being in bed by midnight...it's not like I'm Cinderella...
And then I started laughing inside realizing that I AM Cinderella, in fact I am the one woman Cinderella show.
I am Cinderella the maid, a slave to all the housework. But when I need to, for church, I can clean up pretty well.
I am the wicked stepmother who harps at her kids to do their jobs, eat their dinner and get their homework done.
I am the fairy god mother who makes clean clothes, lunches and soccer uniforms magically appear.
I am the mice who mends clothes, sews dresses and curtains, who paints walls and reupholsters furniture.
I am the coachman who carpools kids to and from school, piano, church, soccer practice and play dates.
I am the wicked step sister who nags at Aric to "Rub my feet. Work on my back. Get me a blanket...NO not that one, a warm cozy one from the basement."
The only part I don't play is the prince, but I guess that's okay because technically, I already have one. He's the guy who sleeps next to me and lets me rub my cold feet on him until they are warm.
And as far as the glass slippers go....well you know I have a closet full of them. Go here if you want to see a sampling.
Now I must go and get back to my ever after.

i cannot believe that you can stay up until midnight! i need to be in bed way before that. i haven't been getting to bed until around 11 and i am too tired. i want to start going to bed by 10! that would be the best!

Wow cinderella, you are good to make it until midnight! I typically check out after the kids do (Kaden goes to be at 7, Kai at 8) so that tells you how early I go to bed!! I am useless after that time. I have my "shows" I have to watch too. I LOVE Lost!!

That was awesome! I am a one woman show too, I guess. I love how you wrote about this...I prefer to think of myself as a one woman show like you said, than just thinking of myself as an indentured servant.

I love this post! I think that would help me to think of myself as the one-woman Cinderella show. I admire you for folding clothes right out of the dryer. I guess it is one of my least favorite chores and there is always a mountain of clothes it seems.

What? Are there couples who don't watch T.V. together?

Living the fairy tale. That's what we all want, right?

Hey Lady, you guys need to add the show LIFE to your list. don't ask me what night it is on. We do the DVR thing too, only we watch everything on one night. It is amazing how fast one can watch TV if they skip commercials.

So that's your tiara? And we need to discuss Survivor, because nobody else watches that show and Coach KILLS me every week.

I was beginning to think that we really are twins UNTIL...you said that you fold your laundry right after you dry it. So not twins. But then we turned into twins again when you said that you made Aric go get you the warm cozy blanket from the basement (of course!). I love your happily ever after. After all, it's eerily similar to mine;).

Love the tiara, the red shoe collection, and of course....musical selection- great post! My 24 mojo is dwindeling with every episode, kinda disappointed this season...blasted Tony Almeada. And your thoughts on Biggest Loser?? I like NO ONE in the finale. The brown team is far too weasely, Helen is just plain obnoxious "I'm 48 and hot blah blah blah." I was thinking more like 58ish..maybe it was the whole smoking, drinking and cussing episode. And Tara, ENOUGH of her, she won everything and swears too much. Was it too much to ask for the Tongan boys to pull through. O.k., I'm done now.
